A
lice Roberts
Alice
is Lecturer in Clinical Anatomy at the University of Bristol. Her subspecialist interests are in palaeoanthropology and osteoarchaeology.  Television credits include appearing as an expert presenter on Time Team, and presenting the BAFTA-award winning BBC 2 series, Coast. Her most recent series – “Don’t Die Young” - was screened in January 2007 to much popular acclaim. She wrote the book accompanying the series. A second series is imminent among many other media projects.

Bill Wrigley

Bill is the manager of the dissection room suite at the Department of Anatomy, University of Bristol
He developed a series of soft-embalming techniques that enables fresh cadaveric material to be studied, dissected and maintained. The technique maintains colour and pliability as well as maintaining the material as close to surgical conditions as possible. Dissections of the autonomic plexi  including the inferior hypogastric plexus are enhanced by this treatment.  Similar material is used for training under The Human Tissues Act, 2004.

Martin Quinn

Martin is a Consultant Gynaecologist with special interests in pelvic pain and reconstructive pelvic surgery.  His clinical research develops the denervation-reinnervation view of gynaecology.  He has completed an LLM degree in Medical Law at the University of Cardiff. Outside interests include gardening, golf and tennis.

Simon Hill

Simon is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Queens Park Hospital , Blackburn .  He heads a busy Urogynaecology Unit and maintains an interest in academic and pharmaceutical research.  He attended the inaugural anatomy course in 2001 and has been attending ever since. He is also a member of the International Continence Society, International Urogynaecology Association, and British Society for Urogynaecology.  In his spare time he plays football and drives an oversized motor bike.

Phillip Smith

Phil is a Consultant Gynaecologist at The North Bristol NHS Trust at Southmead Hospital. He is co-director of the RCOG Subspecialty Training Programme in Urogynaecology in Bristol.  He has developed his special interest in prolapse management over the past 12 years, and attributes much of this to the inspirational teaching of David Nichols, Bob Shull and John DeLancey in the USA.  Outside work he enjoys golf, sailing, skiing and sports cars.

Rick Porter
Rick is Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Bath, where he is the lead Gynaecologist for Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and Urogynaecology. He attended the course in 2003 and deeply shocked to realise how poorly he had understood the functional anatomy of the area! Since then he has sought to make good the deficit, both in himself and his trainees. He is regularly consulted as an expert witness in both obstetrics and gynaecology.  Some of the time he would prefer to be enjoying wine, theatre and opera.

Stein Bjornsson
Born and educated in Iceland , Stein has worked in the UK since 1984. He is now Consultant Gynaecologist at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow and co-director of the RCOG Subspecialty training in Urogynaecology in the West of Scotland.  He had special interest in pelvic floor reconstruction and prolapse management which he developed whilst working for Alan Brown in Edinburgh. He regularly hosts training sessions for consultants on new surgical procedures.  Outside work he enjoys travelling, hillwalking and most recently taken up scuba diving.
